Perhaps this is more construction related than tech related, but the Phillips head screw is certainly found in every industry today, including your computer! On July 7, 1936, multiple patents were issued for the Phillips-head screw and screwdriver to inventor Henry F. Phillips. Phillips was the founder of Phillips Screw Company, and one of his very first customers was General Motors. GM licensed the use of Phillips head screws for its Cadillac line of cars. Phillips design quickly proved to be incredibly popular, and by 1940, some 85% of U.S. screw manufacturers had a license for the Phillips design. It’s one of the most innovative construction components of the 20th century.
