June 23, 1868– Latham Sholes, Carlos Glidden, and Samuel Soule are awarded patent number 79, 265 for the “Type-Writer”.  Their invention would become the precursor to the first commercially successful typewriter, the Sholes and Glidden typewriter, later re-branded as Remington No. 1. The first patented type-writer had only six piano-style keys, but the Remington No. 1 introduced the world to the Qwerty Keyboard, still in use to this day.
